With the upcoming start of school, now is the perfect time to put together and start checking off end-of-summer bucket list events! There is so much happening in and around Boston this time of year that it’s the perfect chance to take a moment to make some unforgettable memories together as a family.

Enjoy a festival in the North End

August is always a time of festivities in the North End of Boston. Music, parades, and way too much food are the hallmarks of walking the streets of the North end for things like the Fishermen’s Feast and St. Anthony’s Feast.

It’s a perfect time to enjoy the activities for kids and unwind a bit before school starts by playing games and eating your fill of fine Italian food.

Head to the Marshfield Fair

Take a quick drive down to Marshfield for their annual fair. It’s such a fun event to ride all the rides you can while also seeing some amazing exhibits like axe throwing, glass blowing, and giant pumpkins!

With lots of fun geared toward kids like balloons and crafts, there’s always something to delight each and every child no matter how young or old. Find more about what’s happening today and plan your visit here.

Go to a local theatrical performance in and around Boston

There are a variety of places to see a fantastic theatrical performance as a family in Boston, and while you might have to wait to go to something, at least planning it now is part of the fun to build anticipation! Just a few of the stages you will regularly find family-friendly entertainment in the greater metro area are:

  • The Wilbur Theater : 246 Tremont St, Boston  02116
  • The Chevalier Theater :30 Forest St. Medford, MA 02155
  • South Stage : 140 Brandeis Rd, Newton, MA 02459
  • The Greater Boston Stage Company : 395 Main St, Stoneham, MA 02180

Enjoy an outdoor movie at the Mendon Twin Drive-In

Address: 35 Milford St. Mendon, MA 01756

You can see which outdoor movies are showing here, and depending on just how late you’re willing to let the kids stay up maybe catch the late showing!

They have a mix of both old and new movies. So ever wanted to see the Goonies on a big screen again or Back to the Future? Maybe even a family favorite for us, Sandlot? They are all planned for the end of August!

Just don’t forget to wear some bug protection! That’s been our only downside to going. So just be prepared. Check out these options for repelling bug that don’t include a spray:

Pick your own produce at Lookout Farm

Address: 89 Pleasant St, South Natick, MA 01760

Just like it sounds, you can go pick fruits straight from the tree. Learn more about how “U-pick” works and enjoy a day outside collecting food and making fun memories together. There are many pick your own options around Boston, but with a Children’s play area and even hard cider for the adults, Lookout seems like a great destination for the whole family.
