Arnold Arboretum

One of the most amazing aspects of this park is that it’s located right in the middle of the city. Plus, with Bonsai trees over 300 years old, you and your family will have so much to look at while picnicking there. If your crew has some extra energy, you can take a hike up Peter’s Hill to see a stellar view of the skyline of Boston as well!

Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway
Address: 185 Kneeland St Boston, MA 02111
Pack a picnic and have a quick lunch on this long strip of grass where the highway used to be. The great part about this park is that you can also grab a bite to eat for your picnic lunch from one of the many food trucks that you’ll find parked around or even grab a bite from the North End and bring it to the swings. It’s the perfect place for quick stop picnic!
Post Office Park
Address: 0 Post Office Square, Boston, MA 02110
With such a lovely green lawn, it’s the perfect place to run around and play while stopping to sit for a bite to eat. We have taken bubbles and burgers to make a “B&B” picnic date in Boston. It made it memorable and the kids loved it!
Assembly Row Amphitheater & Playground
Address of formally known as Sylvester Baxter Riverfront Park: Assembly Row & Great River Rd, Somerville, MA 02145
We love going on the Orange Line to Assembly Row. It’s definitely changed over the last few years with a lot more shops and buildings and the casino across the waterway. Regardless, the playground is a great picnic spot. It’s by the bank of the Mystic River so little kids can enjoy watching boats, planes, and the T go by, which is always a big hit with our toddlers and even older kids as well. Because there are places to eat and an ice cream shop, there is also a lot to do in the area beyond just picnicking and playing.
Along the Charles River
One of our favorite things to do as a family is to walk along the river to get our exercise. Stop and sit somewhere along the way to snack and play!
